Charles Arvid Rawstrom, son of Karl (Charles) Arvid Konstantin Rawstrom and Hilda Kristina Bäcklund, was born on 14 June 1904 at Montclair, New Jersey.1,2
Charles married Mary Louise Lillian Gibbs on 7 September 1940, at St. Luke's Churcch, Montclair, Essex, New Jersey.
The U.S. officially entered World War II on 8 December 1941 following an attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Just about a year before that, in October 1940, President Roosevelt had signed into law the first peacetime selective service draft in U.S. history, due to rising world conflicts. After the U.S. entered WWII a new selective service act required that all men between ages 18 and 65 register for the draft. Between November 1940 and October 1946, over 10 million American men were registered. The Fourth Registration, often referred to as the "old man's registration", was conducted on 27 April 1942 and registered men who born on or between 28 April 1877 and 16 February 1897 - men who were between 45 and 64 years old - and who were not already in the military. Charles filled out a draft card for World War II on 15 February 1942 (at age 37), while living at 62 James Street, Montclair, Essex, New Jersey. He was self employed.4
Charles died on 2 June 1981, at New Jersey, at age 76,1,5 and was buried at Mt. Hebron Cemetery, Montclair, Essex, New Jersey.6
Charles married Mary Louise Lillian Gibbs on 7 September 1940, at St. Luke's Churcch, Montclair, Essex, New Jersey.
Miss Lilian M. Gibbs, daughter of Thomas H. Gibbs of 104 Midland Avenue, and the late Mrs. Gibbs, was married at 5 o'clock Saturday afternoon to Charles Rawstrom of 153 Valley Road, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Rawstrom. The Rev. P. J. Clark officiated at the ceremony, which was performed in the chapel of St. Luke's Churcch. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a soldier blue crepe gown, black velvet hat, black accessories and a corsage of tea roses. Miss Florencce A. Deaney of Brooklyn, N. Y., who was the maid of honor and only attendant, was gowned in burgundy crepe with black accessories and wore a corsage of yellow roses. Harry Larson of San Diego, Calif., served Mr. Rawstrom as best man. After a wedding trip to the Poconos, the couple will live at the Midland Avenue address. Both Mr. and Mrs. Rawstrom attended Montclair High School and Mr. Rawstrom is in business for himself in Montclair.3
