     Albert Nicholas Van Dyke, son of Peter Wyckoff Van Dyke and Mary Esther Brower, was born on 4 September 1874 at Brooklyn, Kings, New York.1,3

     Albert married Harriet Lulla Carr, daughter of John Somerfield Carr and Emma Francis Smith, on 5 May 1896, at Brooklyn, Kings, New York.4,5,2

     Due to a need for men to serve during World War I, the United States instituted a draft. The first registration was for men between the ages of 21 and 31. As a result, this first registration included men born between June 5, 1886 and June 5, 1896. As World War I continued to escalate, the United States instituted a second draft registration. The second registration was for men who had turned 21 since June 5, 1917, so it added men born between June 5, 1896 and June 5, 1897. Two months later, a supplemental registration was held on August 24, 1918 for men who had become 21 years of age since June 5, 1918, adding the names of men who were born between June 5, 1897 and August 24, 1897. With no end in sight for World War I, the United States instituted it's third and final registration. It included all men who were between the ages of 18 and 21, and 31 to 45 years of age. This added younger men than the previous registrations, those who were born between September 12, 1897 and September 12, 1900; and added an older group of men, born between September 12, 1873 and September 12, 1888. Albert filled out a draft card for World War I on 12 September 1918 (at age 44), while living at 1631 East 45th Street, Brooklyn, Kings, New York. He was employed as smelter and described as height, medium and medium build with gray eyes and brown hair..6

     Albert died on 21 November 1948, at age 74,7 and was buried at Huntington Rural Cemetery, Huntington, Suffolk, New York.8

     Albert and Harriet appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Brooklyn, Kings, New York, enumerated 6 April 1940. Albert was working as a foreman in building construction. He worked 52 weeks the past year, earning $1750.00. He owned his home, valued at $5000.00. As an item of interest, a dollar in 1940 would equal $21.35 in the year 2022.      Albert P. Van Dyke, son of Peter Albert Van Dyke and Ruth Hendrickson, was born on 29 January 1837 at Flatlands, Kings, New York.3

     Albert married Charity Denice, daughter of Henry Denice and Sarah "Surname Unknown", on 19 December 1859, at Canarsie, Kings, New York.4,5

     Albert P. Van Dyke, married and farmer, was part of the consolidated list of persons subject to do military duty in the Second Congressional District consisting of Kings County, in June 1863.6

     There were four civil war drafts that included 776,000 individuals in that time. Services for Albert Van Brunt Van Dyke, 89, of 67 Whaley Ave., Bethpage, a descendent of a Long Island family which goes back to 17th century New York, will be held tonight. Mr. Van Dyke died at the Meadowbrook Hospital, East Meadow, after a long illness. Born in Brooklyn, he moved to Bethpage 9 years ago when he retired from his farm in Hollis. As a young man, Mr. Van Dyke was a sparring partner of Bob Fitzsimmons heavyweight champion of the world. Later he moved to Florida and was appointed a special sheriff of Volk County, Florida from 1925 - 28. He came back from Florida and lived in Hollis. He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Haber of Bethpage; three sons; Gertrude Lang of Danielson, Conn., Edgar D. Alberston and Albert R. Van Dyke of San Diego, Calif; six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.15

     Alice Frances Van Dyke, daughter of Thomas Cook Van Dyke and Elizabeth Brenker, was born circa 1893 at New York.1

Miss Alice F. Van Dyke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Van Dyke of 5 Compton Terrace, Jamaica and Hubert B. Geist of the Bronx were married on Thursday evening at the home of the bride's parents. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. George C. Fort, Pastor of the Jamaica M. E. Church.

- Under an arch of foliage at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Van Dyke, of' 3 Compton Terrace, last night at ' 8 o'clock their , daughter. Miss Alice 'Frances Van Dyke. became the bride of Hubert Bertram Geist. of 1911 Davidson avenue, Manhattan. The Rev. Dr. George C. Fort, pastor of the Jamaica M. E. Church, officiated. The bride, who was given in marriage by her brother, Percy B. Van Dyke, wore a gown of white georgette and a veil of tulle with a corsage bouquet of lilies of the valley. Miss Elsie Geist, sister of the bridegroom, was bridesmaid. A reception following the ceremony had as guests Mr. and Mrs. Isaac M. Van Dyke, of Bayside, the bride's grandparents, and Mr. and Mrs. George Gosline, of City Island, her uncle and aunt. On their return from their wedding trip to Washington, D. C., the couple will make their home in Jamaica. The bride, before taking up her residence in Jamaica two years ago. lived in Hollis for twelve years. Mr. Geist is engaged in the export business in Manhattan.2,3


     Alice died on 20 May 1986,4 and was buried at Flushing Cemetery, Flushing, Queens, New York.4,5

     Alice and Hubert appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Queens, Queens, New York, enumerated 22 April 1930. Hubert was working as a petroleum salesman. He owned his home, valued at $8,500.00. They had a radio set. Their children, Thomas Van Dyke were listed as living with them.9

     Alice and Hubert appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Queens, Queens, New York, enumerated 16 April 1940. Hubert was working as a petroleum sales supervisor. The past year he worked 52 weeks and earned $4726.00 Their son, Thomas Van Dyke and Alice's parents, Thomas and Elizabeth were listed as living with them. As an item of interest, a dollar in 1940 would equal $21.35 in the year 2022. A $3.50 gallon of milk in 2022 would have cost $.17 cents in 1940.10

     Alice Frances Van Dyke, along with her husband, Hubert, appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Queens, Queens, New York in the household of her son-in-law, Thomas and Elizabeth.11

- GEIST — Alice F. nee Van Dyke, formerly of Westbury in her 93rd year, on May 20, 1986. Beloved wile of the late Hubert, loving and devoted mother of Thomas V. Dearest; mother in-law of Joy Cherished; grandmother of Nancy Hirsch and Jeffrey Geist. Also adored by five loving great-grandchildren. Reposing Charles J O'Shea Funeral Home, 2515 No Jerusalem Rd., (northbound exit 25N SS Pkwy East Meadow). Religious service Thursday evening 8 OO PM Funerai Friday 10 00 AM. Interment Flushing Cemetery. Family wIill recieve friends 2-5 and 7-10 PM.4
