     Oliver, at age 20, son of Rev. Hosea Smith and Mary Abigail Damon, married Abigail S. Reynolds on 26 November 1845.3

     Oliver died on 6 September 1895 at Easton, Aroostook, Maine, at age 70.4 and was buried at Estes Park Cemetery, Easton, Aroostook, Maine.5

Funeral Services In Patten for Pfc. Oscar Smith

ATTEN June 27 - The death of Pfc Oscar Samuel Smith, 20, grandson of Mrs. Adriana Parker of Patten, occurred on Tuesday, June 19, at Dover, N.J., following an automobile accident the day before. Pfc. Smith enlisted in the Marine Corps the day following the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, and immediately after completing his training was sent to the South Pacific area. He served through the Guadalcanal campaign, and was at Tulagi for a time, before being sent back to the United States at the end of 13 months overseas, after several attacks of malaria. He was hospitalized for a time after reaching this country, and later was given a furlough when he visited Mrs. Parker here. At the close of his leave he was assigned to Camp Lejeune, New River, N.C. There he served until March of this year when he was transffered to the Marine barracks at Dover, N.J. where he was stationed at the time of his death. Pfc Smith was born at Houlton, the son of the late Oscar S. Smith and Mrs. Hazel Parker Trask. Both parents died in his childhood, and he spent his earlier years at the home of his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Parker, in this town and in Massachusetts. During his years here he was popular with his school mates, and had a wide circle of friends. The remains arrived Saturday accompanied by Corp.      Oscar Tilden Smith, son of Samuel T. Smith and Elizabeth A. Reed, was born on 30 April 1876 at Plantation #14, Washington, Maine.1,3

     Oscar and an unknown person filed a marriage intention on 13 August 1897.4

     Oscar, at age 21, son of Samuel T. Smith and Elizabeth A. Reed, married Bernice May Russell at age 23, daughter of Joshua Russell and Deborah Buzzell, on 18 August 1897 at Danforth, Maine, At the time of marriage, Oscar was a clergyman and Bernice was a school teacher.5,6,4

     Oscar was His sister, Cora, provided a notarized document, dated 25 March 1918, certifying the birth date of Oscar and his parents.
Additionally, a letter from 'The International Committee of Young Men's Christian Association's', on 21 March 1918. Their letter certified Oscar had been appointed a secretary of the International Committee of the Young Men's Christian Associations for service with the French troops in France. He was also to be visiting Great Britian. Mr. Smith was to serve one year on 26 March 1918 at Deputy Clerk court, Bangor, Penobscot, Maine.7

     Due to a need for men to serve during World War I, the United States instituted a draft. The first registration was for men between the ages of 21 and 31. As a result, this first registration included men born between June 5, 1886 and June 5, 1896. As World War I continued to escalate, the United States instituted a second draft registration. The second registration was for men who had turned 21 since June 5, 1917, so it added men born between June 5, 1896 and June 5, 1897. Two months later, a supplemental registration was held on August 24, 1918 for men who had become 21 years of age since June 5, 1918, adding the names of men who were born between June 5, 1897 and August 24, 1897. With no end in sight for World War I, the United States instituted it's third and final registration. It included all men who were between the ages of 18 and 21, and 31 to 45 years of age. This added younger men than the previous registrations, those who were born between September 12, 1897 and September 12, 1900; and added an older group of men, born between September 12, 1873 and September 12, 1888. Oscar filled out a draft card for World War I on 12 September 1918 (at age 42) He was described as height..8

     Oscar Tilden Smith and Bernice May Russell were divorced before 1919.9

     Oscar, at age 43, son of Samuel T. Smith and Elizabeth A. Reed, married Hazel H. Parker at age 21, daughter of Edroy J. Parker and Adrianna Stafford, on 7 June 1919 at Patten, Penobscot, Maine. It was the 2nd. marriage for Oscar, first ending in divorce, and 1st. for Hazel.10,11

     Oscar and Bernice appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Vinal Haven, Knox, Maine, enumerated 23 April 1910. Oscar was a Methodist preacher. Their children, Verna E. and Irving Berry were listed as living with them.13

     Oscar appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Dearborn, Wayne, Michigan, at Middlepointe Ave., enumerated 17 April 1930. Oscar was listed as a widower; working as a school teacher.      Otis Smith lived circa 1820 Otis Smith was living in Belmont, Maine in 1820,and purchased land there in 1823. he was living in Belmont in 1830, but sold his land in 1833 and then appears on the 1840-1860 census records living in Charleston, Maine. there is no record of his death or burial in Charleston or Belmont, Maine.2
