Rev. Henry Van Dyke D. D., husband of Ellen Ried
     Rev. Henry Van Dyke D. D., son of Rev. Henry Jackson Van Dyke D. D. and Henrietta Ashmead, was born on 10 November 1852 at Phildelphia, Pennsylvania.1,2

     Henry married Ellen Reid, daughter of Andrew Reid and Fannie Brooke Gwathmey, on 13 December 1881.1

     Henry, and his daughter, Paula was found on the "S. S. Korea Maru" passenger list on 30 March 1920, sailing from San Francisco, California. They arrived at the Port of Honolulu, 05 Apr 1920.3

     Henry was
Poet, Author. A graduate of Princeton University and Princeton Theological Seminary, he was a professor, Presbyterian clergyman, poet, author and diplomat. He taught English at Princeton University and lectured at the University of Paris. He chaired the committee that wrote the first book of Presbyterian liturgy, 'The Book of Common Worship of 1906.' President Woodrow Wilson appointed him Ambassador to The Netherlands and Luxembourg, a post he held from 1913 to 1917. An author of short stories and poetry with spiritual themes, several of his poems became the lyrics to hymns, including 'Joyful, joyful we adore thee' set to the tune of Beethoven's 'Ode to Joy.'      Henry died on 10 April 1933, at Princeton, New Jersey, at age 80,5,6 and was buried at Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, Mercer, New Jersey.4

HENRY E. VAN DYKE -

Harry E. Van Dyke, brother of Mrs. Henry Buffett, died at her home, Avenue N and Mill lane, Flatlands, today, suddenly, in his 74th year of his age. He was a native of Flatlands and had been a sea captain since 1859. He was a member of the Flatlands Reformed Church and the funeral services will take place at his home Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock the Rev. Dr. Gardner officiating. VAN DYKE Suddenly, on February 18, 1910, HENRY E. VAN DYKE in his 74th year. Funeral services at the residence of his sister, Mrs. Henry Buffett, Avenue N, (East Fifty-seventh st) and Mill lane, Sunday, February 20, 1910, at 2:30 P. M.8
