     Lydia Charlotte Cassel, daughter of August Cassel and Charlotta "Surname Unknown", was born on 1 October 1884 at Wisconsin.1

     Lydia married Oscar Allen Wickman, son of John Wickman and Christina Carlson, circa 1905.1 Lydia Charlotte Cassel witnessed the death of Lydia Charlotte Cassel on 31 October 19704 and was buried at Crystal Lake Cemetery, Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota.4

     Lydia and Oscar appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota, enumerated 2 April 1910. Oscar was working as a truck driver. Their children, Allen Waldo, Virgil Dennis and Lyle Oscar, and Lydia's sister, Effie were listed as living with them.5

     Lydia and Oscar appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota, enumerated 2 January 1920. He was working as a machinist at a tractor company Their children, Allen Waldo, Virgil Dennis, Lyle Oscar, Marian Bernice and Ruth Charlotte were listed as living with them.6

     Lydia appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota, enumerated 9 April 1930. She was renting, paying $20.00 per month. They did have a radio set in the home. Her children, Allen Waldo, Virgil Dennis, Lyle Oscar, Marian Bernice, Marden Bennett and Ruth Charlotte were listed as living with her.7

     Lydia appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota, enumerated 14 April 1940. She was renting, paying $22.00 per month. Her children, Lyle Oscar, Marian Bernice and Ruth Charlotte were listed as living with her. As an item of interest, a dollar in 1940 would equal $16.26 in the year 2012. A $3.50 gallon of milk in 2012 would have cost $.21 cents in 1940.8

     Ellen died on 31 October 1999, at age 75,1 and was buried at Independent Cemetery, Arland, Barron, Wisconsin.1

Obituary

Ellen M. Wickman, 75, Cumberland, Wis., died Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999, at her home. She was born Oct. 30, 1924, at Comstock, Wis., to Silas and Anna Marie (Anders) Catlin. Obit in story ad She was raised in the Comstock area. She married Chester Wickman at Pipe Lake June 26, 1943. They lived in the Arland area from 1951 until 1992 when they moved to Cumberland. She worked at Jeromes in Barron for 14 years, at the Farmers Store in Barron for ten years, and at the Twin Town Cheese Factory for eight years. Surviving are her husband, Chester Wickman of Cumberland; sons, Robert (Clare) Wickman, Greeley, Colo., Randy (Rebecca) Wickman of Shell Lake, and Roy (Kathleen) Wickman of Almena; 16 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Lucille (Joe) Hegenbarth of Cumberland; and brothers, Robert (JoJo) Catlin of Cumberland, Harold (JoAnn) Catlin and Emmett (Nancy) Catlin of Comstock. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, William Catlin; and one grandson, Aaron. Services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Lutheran Church, Arland, Rev. Ken Kuziej officiating. Burial at Independence Cemetery, Arland. Arrangements with the Skinner Funeral Home of Cumberland.1
