Gunhild Tranbarger Arrowsmith A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday at Zimmerman Brothers Funeral Home, Rochester, for Gunhild TRANBARGER ARROWSMITH, 80, Boynton Beach, Fla., who died Tuesday in Palm Beach. She was born Feb. 28, 1906 in Sweden to Otto and Gertrude SUSTROM. She had lived most of her life in Fulton County and the Rochester area. On July 1, 1944 she married Emmett TRANBARGER, who died May 19, 1972. In 1975 she married W. Harry ARROWSMITH, who survives. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Order of Eastern Star, and was a former editor of The Sentinel's LifeStyles page. Surviving with the husband are a brother, Evar SUSTROM, and a niece, Norva SUSTROM, both of LaPorte. The Rev. Donald MAUGHAN will officiate. Burial was in Maine, where Mrs. Arrowsmith summered. Eastern Star rites will be conducted during the memorial service.

     The U.S. officially entered World War II on 8 December 1941 following an attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Just about a year before that, in October 1940, President Roosevelt had signed into law the first peacetime selective service draft in U.S. history, due to rising world conflicts. After the U.S. entered WWII a new selective service act required that all men between ages 18 and 65 register for the draft. Between November 1940 and October 1946, over 10 million American men were registered. The Fourth Registration, often referred to as the "old man's registration", was conducted on 27 April 1942 and registered men who born on or between 28 April 1877 and 16 February 1897 - men who were between 45 and 64 years old - and who were not already in the military. Otto filled out a draft card for World War II on 27 April 1942 (at age 58), while living at Chicago, Cook, Illinois. He was described as 'white', 5' 6', 200 lbs., blue eyes, grey hair and 'shallow' complexion. He was working as International Typewriter Executive. He had some moles on his face.2
